Kirwan thinks Bears will pick Wisconsin offensive tackle
In his latest mock draft released Monday, NFL.com’s Pat Kirwan is predicting that the Bears will select Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi with the 29th pick.
“The Bears will consider themselves fortunate if Carimi falls to them,” Kirwan writes. “They need offensive line help and Carimi is NFL ready. Jay Cutler gets sacked too much and the running game needs to improve. Carimi helps on both fronts.”
Carimi was a four-year starter at Wisconsin, where he replaced Joe Thomas. Last season the 6-7, 314-pounder won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman.
Kirwan also predicts that the Bears will choose Abilene Christian receiver Edmond Gates in the second round (62nd overall). A small speedy wideout in the mold of former college teammate Johnny Knox, Gates caught 66 passes for 1,182 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
In his previous mock draft, Kirwan projected the Bears would choose Texas cornerback Aaron Williams and Boise State receiver Titus Young with their first two picks.
