CMU, saved by upright, beats Buffalo


 

Ontario Sneed ran for his second touchdown of the game with 2:58 left and Central Michigan held off Buffalo, 27-25, on Saturday.

The Bulls (2-3, 1-1 Mid-American) answered 1:21 later on Drew Willy's 65-yard scoring pass to James Starks. Buffalo recovered the ensuing onside kick and converted a fourth-and-four attempt at the Chippewas' 40-yard line to set up a 46-yard field goal attempt by A.J. Principe, but the ball hit off the right upright as time expired.

Sneed finished with 77 yards rushing on 16 carries for Central (3-2, 2-0). Dan LeFevour carried 16 times for 100 yards and a touchdown and completed 21 of 26 passes for 152 yards.

Starks rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown and had five receptions for 97 yards.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS 37, EASTERN MICHIGAN 0: Me'Co Brown rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown for visiting Northern Illinois (2-2, 1-1). The Eagles (1-4, 0-2) lost starting quarterback Kyle McMahon to a shoulder injury early in the game.

WESTERN MICHIGAN 7, TEMPLE 3: Tim Hiller threw a 30-yard TD pass to Juan Nunez for visiting Western Michigan (4-1, 2-0).

Ashland 24, Hillsdale 17: Billy Cundiff was 20-for-29 for 294 yards and two touchdowns for visiting Ashland (3-2, 3-1). Vinnie Panizzi had 29 carries for 140 yards and a TD for host Hillsdale. (3-2, 2-2).

Ferris State 31, Northern Michigan 24: Chad Wilson returned an interception 75 yards for a TD with five seconds remaining for host Ferris State (4-1, 3-1). Carter Kopach had 197 yards passing and a TD for Northern Michigan (1-3, 1-3).

Grand Valley State 52, Michigan Tech 6: Brad Iciek threw for 90 yards and four TDs for GVSU (4-0, 4-0). Akeem Cason rushed for 98 yards for Tech (3-2, 3-2).

Indianapolis 14, Saginaw Valley State 11: Dan Stiefle threw for 181 yards and a TD for SVSU (2-2, 2-2).

Northwood 31, Findlay 24: Torris Childs had 145 yards rushing and two touchdowns for host Northwood (1-3, 1-3), the second one with 31 seconds remaining in the game. Wayne State 34, Tiffin 18: Kevin Smith was 10-for-24 for 142 yards and two touchdowns for host Wayne State (4-1, 3-1).

Adrian 37, Lake Erie (Ohio) 17: Troy Niblock had 129 yards rushing and four touchdowns for visiting Adrian (3-1).

Bluffton (Ohio) 23, Kalamazoo 15: Brandon Luczak had 167 yards passing and a touchdown for visiting Kalamazoo (1-3).

Central (Iowa) 13, Albion 12: Donovan Dooley was 19-for-31 for 154 yards and a TD for visiting Albion (1-3).

North Central (Ill.) 37, Olivet 7: Sean Misko had one-yard touchdown run for Olivet (1-3).

Wisconsin-River Falls 25, Alma 20: Mackenzie McGrady was 21-for-31 for 198 yards and a touchdown for host Alma (2-2).

WHEATON (ILL.) 47, HOPE 7: Jon Rodriguez scored the lone touchdown for host Hope (0-4) on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.
