As part of “Back to Football Week,”
the Bears have partnered with Chicago Public Schools on their Back to School campaign, “Show Up! First Day and Every Day,”
to encourage students to attend school.
As part of the effort, 11 Bears players appeared at 10 different schools on the first day of classes Tuesday morning to greet children, ring the bell to announce the start of the new school year and stress the importance of attendance in school on the first day and every day.
The player visits support Mayor Richard M. Daley’s annual tradition of visiting a school on the first day of classes to welcome students and encourage attendance.
Bears defensive linemen Tommie Harris and Israel Idonije joined Mayor Daley at William H. Wells Community Academy to greet students as they arrived at school.
Other Bears players who participated in Tuesday’s event included Anthony Adams (Henry Elementary), Devin Aromashodu (Sheridan Math & Science Academy), Zackary Bowman (Pershing West Middle School), Josh Bullocks (Noble Street Charter Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy), Lance Louis (A.N. Pritzker School), Danieal Manning (Ericson Elementary Scholastic Academy), D.J. Moore (Monroe Elementary), Nick Roach (Mayo Elementary) and Corey Wootton (Haines Elementary).
Tuesday's event is one component of the Bears’ Back to Football Week, which is brought to you by the Chicago Tribune, Toyota and the University of Phoenix. Back to Football Week will feature activities leading up to Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field.
